The IRONMAN World Championship, one of the world’s most recognized endurance sports, challenging athletes with a 140.6-mile journey through the striking landscape of Hawaii’s Big Island. This iconic race combines a 2.4-mile swim in Kailua Bay, a 112-mile bike ride through the volcanic lava fields, and a 26.2-mile run along the historic Kona coast.

The 2024 men’s race in Kailua-Kona delivered an unforgettable championship performance. German athlete Patrick Lange captured his third IRONMAN World Championship title, breaking the course record with a time of 7:35:53. The race featured several remarkable achievements, including a new bike course record of 3:57:22 set by defending champion Sam Laidlow during an intense day of competition.

Since its inception in 1978, the IRONMAN World Championship has called Hawaii home, building a legacy of extraordinary athletic achievements. The championship has evolved from its humble beginnings to become a global phenomenon, drawing the world’s elite triathletes to test themselves against the challenging course and unpredictable island conditions.

This year marked a significant moment in the event’s history, as it continues the new format of alternating men’s and women’s races between Nice, France, and Kona through 2026.

OnStage Hawaii contributed to the event’s success by providing staging and rigging solutions throughout the course. Their work integrated with the natural Hawaiian environment while supporting the event’s broadcast and spectator requirements. The finish line area on Ali’i Drive, featuring traditional Hawaiian design elements, created a backdrop for the thousands of spectators who witnessed this historic race.
